GIS Summer Jobs description

A GIS summer job candidate is responsible for assisting the staff with a variety of GIS projects. Typical tasks may include collecting data and preparing computerized maps, charts, graphs, and diagrams. A GIS Summer job candidate enters/digitizes map-related information into computer using ArcGIS 9.2.; creates and updates GIS layers such as requested by GIS specialists; develops, facilitates, and assists water utility employees in operating, maintaining, inspecting, installing, and repairing water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities and associated collection and distribution equipment, systems and components. A GIS summer job candidate supervises, facilitates and manages the professional development, training needs and performance of water utility employees providing leadership for self-directed work teams. A GIS summer job manages personnel by enforcing work rules ensuring—compliance with environmental regulations; the safe and proper use of various tools and test instruments; proper safety practices for confined space entry; lock-out tag-out and storing, handling, and transporting gases, and chemicals. A GIS summer job candidate collects data and generates reports; complete work process documentation; and performs other related work as assigned.

A GIS summer job candidate must have an HS diploma/ GED. An associates’ degree in water quality technology or college training emphasizing chemistry, mathematics, hydraulics, and laboratory work, or supplemented with supervisory training. A GIS summer job candidates require computer skill like Microsoft Office, ArcGIS 9.2., etc. Hands on experience with the ESRI family of products, specifically Geodatabases and Topologies is a plus.
