Some skills that would be helpful to have are:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to speak more than two languages
- Thorough knowledge of history, geography, governments, politics, world culture, current topics and other relevant subjects
- Ability of writing with clear picture of the situations
- Flexibility to work in any foreign nation
- Capability of controlling critical situations, drawing on personal experience and also by consulting the U.S. Departments
